Belly Dancing Information

I am taking belly dancing classes to get in shape and to surprise my bf. I assume I do not have to wear the elaborate costume. Can I just get away with regular workout clothes? What kind of shoes should I wear?

Wear a comfy pair of sweats and a sports bra.
