Belly dancing..??

Is there any really good DVDs that I can get on belly dancing? or can anyone tell me about belly dancing. Dose it really work out your abs and get that nice hour glass figure??
ok for everyones information I’m not fat. I was just asking a question. And I want to do belly dancing because its fun not because I seriously want to go out and be like a professional belly dancer. So I don’t no why all of you were kind of making fun of me. Belly dancing is suppose to be a Art anyway. Any dace is art. Its a way to express yourself….

I really don’t understand why some of these people are making fun of you.

Belly dance has had extreme false advertising. It really doesn’t focus on your abs but more on your thighs. It also depends on what style you use. This dance is more of a way to tone your body rather than shape it. (Witch is better I think because no matter what shape you have you will look good in no time.)

There are many styles (Egyptian + subcategories, Turkish, Tribal + subcategories, Lebanese, Greek, and Indian to name a few).

Curves do tend to be natural but because of certain muscles used in belly dance, one might gain enough muscle in the right spot or lose weight in all the right places. Hint: the move often called "Barrel Roll", WILL shape your stomach into an hour glass figure. Be shure not to become lop-sided,so spin BOTH ways.( I learned that the hard way.)

If you are definitely looking to work out your abs there are cardio weight loss DVDs that you could use. These videos will not deeply go into belly dance, meaning that you will only use the moves that will heavily influence your body.

I do encourage you deeply to take belly dance as a whole and not just something for weight loss. It will definitely change your life forever if you do.

A cardio belly dance series created by Rania is something I definitely recommend to your abs.
Titles include:
Belly dance Fitness for Weight Loss: Cardio Shimmy, Hip Hop Hip Drop, Pure Sweat, and others. (Hip Hop Hip Drop was the easiest)

Belly dance is also known as Raks Sharqi, and other titles as well.

I’m pressed for time but will leave you with a few sites with information.
www.shira.net.
www.orientaldancer.net (create an account and login for free and ask all the questions you desire and I guarantee they will be answered by professionals and amateurs alike, mostly professionals though, but that’s good.)

A few tips. Never trust information from just one source. Verify it with others. Classes are the only way to learn belly dance seriously.

Good luck!!!

BELLY DANCING!!!?

i keep asking this question and i am not getting any info that answers my questions!!!!!!! here they are:
1. is belly dancing a good exercise?
2. is it good cardio?
3. will i burn a lot of calories by doing it?
4. how many calories will i burn per 4 minute song?
5. if i make a playlist thats about 30 minutes and belly dance to it will i burn a lot of calories?
6. can i do it instead of doing elliptical?
7. does anyone have any more info about it? if so, what?

please answer those questions!!!!!!!
by dancing to a long playlist, i would be doing it correctly and vigorously. i would do the same for the 4 minute song.
i am 118 lbs, if that helps calculate a GENERAL amount of calories burned.

Belly-dancing and other types of dance can be good exercises for weight loss. In fact, you can burn as many calories belly-dancing as you can walking, swimming or riding a bike. As with any physical activity, however, the weight-loss benefits of belly-dancing depend on several factors — including the frequency and length of your workouts and your exertion level.

If weight loss is a priority, choose a belly-dancing teacher who keeps you moving continuously throughout the class. You’ll get the most benefit from belly-dancing classes that involve traveling steps. Bottom line: The more you move, the more calories you’ll burn.

Of course, an overall fitness program includes more than aerobic activity. Strength training, stretching and core exercises — such as abdominal crunches — also are important.

hey, i am thinking about trying out belly dancing, and i was just wondering if those of you who do belly dancing can tell me a little bit about it. is it a celebration of women’s curves-how do you like it? any kind of info is appreciated. thanks.

Belly dancing is the american term. It is a combination of many types of dance from so many different countries. You can learn from a teacher who will teach fusion, which is a combination of the most popular, or you can be more specific, Persian, Egyptian, Lebanese, etc. Middle Eastern Dance has been around for centuries, but made popular (and sexual) by Hollywood in the 20’s. There are many types of dance that are a celebration of women. One type is done in the women’s homes when men aren’t around. They toss their unbound hair around and just have fun. I absolutely love it. I’m 33 and I’m starting to perform. My 11 year old daughter is taking lessons now and did a dance in a very modest outfit (much like one Esmeralda wore in Hunchback of Notre Dame) for her 4H talent show and won 1st prize. There are so many different websites you can look at to find out more about middle eastern dance. Try a web search of belly dance origins. You can also go on youtube.com and look up belly dance and find all sorts of great clips. Look up belly dance instruction on some basic movements to see if you might like it. Good luck and have fun!

I really, really, really want to know how to belly dance and im hoping i can do it at home without taking any classes. If you have any tips or steps to becoming a better (because im pretty bad right now) belly dancer PLEASE POST!!!

hey, i’m lebanese and belly dancing is in my blood. i’m a good belly dancer so i’m sure i can help. first off, you need to know that belly dancing isn’t a sleezy or stripper-esque dance used to please men (not that those are bad things haha). instead, it’s to feel beautiful as a woman and embrace your sensuality./sexuality. it’s very classy and gorgeous.
i’km not sure what you know, so i’ll try to cover the basics.
whenever you dance your back needs to be straight because you ctan easily hurt youself. lift your neck, release the shoulders, and tuck in your tailbone(this took a while for me to get…i stick out my butt like crazy.) after that, the starting position is to have either the left or right knee bent, and the opposite leg holding all the wieght while remaining straight. you can shake your hips by shifting motion from foot to foot, or move your hip forward and back to form a cresent. there is also the figure of eight…but this is harder if you don’t know howour to belly dance. think of sliding your belly button without moving your legs (push from your core). then, twist forward. slide to the opposite side and twist back. repeat, as you get beter it will become more fluid and look sexy and beautiful. also, you would probally want to know how to shimi (your legs). relax and simply move your knees up and down. the other shimi is to move softly from your hips side to side. it helps to practice by sitting on the floor and lifiting your kneese about 2 or 3 inches and doing it as fast as you can. for the shoulders, push only one should a little out at a time. you don’t want large, exagerated movements, just think that there is a fringe on your bra that you are trying to move. move from your core and upper abs. finally, you’ll want to be able to do the hand movements. relax your fingers, and move from your hands, up through your arms, into your inner back and shoulders. practice against a wall, barely touching the wall with your middle fingers as your go up and down slowly.

if you need anymore tips just ask, and i hope i helped a little!

From the Brazilian telenovela “O Clone.” Jade (Giovanna Antonelli) seduces then takes revenge on her ex-husband who abused her. The song playing is “Zahma Ya Dunia”, by Tony Mouzayek.
