What do guys think of belly dancing/ belly dancers?
I am a belly dancer, and I was wondering what guys think of the dance. I know the this art is highly commercialized in the US. So guys, would you like your girl friend to be a belly dancer? (not as a profession, but someone who does it for fun and performs sometimes.) Would it make you more or less attracted to a potential date, if you figured she belly dances? Do you consider belly dancing in the same level as pole dancing? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?
I am a belly dancer, I teach and perform and my husband loves it and always encourages me. I think most men like to see a woman belly dancing. Belly dance is a very sensual art form, but in a classy way. Unfortunately, there are still some misconceptions around belly dancing as some people equate it to stripping. The thing is, that belly dancing makes a woman feel at ease and comfortable in her own body and this makes her come across as more self confident and sensual.

It’s a good thing! Guys are turned on by a good belly dancer. It might attract a date, but only from the shallow guys. If you were already dating someone and told them you could do it, I’m sure he would like that you can do it.

The people who originally did this, it was for their husband. It was to please him. So, you can imagine that belly dancing is highly sexual. Do it for your partner only.

I do not look down on pole dancers. However, I do not hold them in the same category as belly dancers. Especially in the way you described.
Personally, belly dancers drive me crazy ( in a good way )

Depends on if youre pretty or not. Personally, i dont really think its really interesting or really valuable to liking someone, as its kinda material. But i can guarantee you 80% of the comments here are guys saying yes it does.
So yeah, its interesting, but personally it wouldnt phase me much, but it would to some pretty shallow guys, if thats what youre looking for.

One person commented that belly dancing was originally done for their husbands…that is not true. Belly dancing was at one time done by woman, for woman and done during a time of bonding and preparing a woman for marriage and no men were allowed to be present.
I too am a belly dancer and am highly offended when men think that belly dancers are strippers or there to entertain them. Belly dancers are not to have money stuffed in their clothes and are not to dance at bachelor parties where there are strictly men. To do so would be to shame the art of belly dancing. Read you history on this beautiful dance and you will see there is nothing to be ashamed of and it is certainly not to be confused with stripping or pole dancing. Good luck!
