Belly dance, like many other Eastern dance forms, has been largely misunderstood and misrepresented by the Western world as something dirty and, well, slutty. Unfortunately, many people in the West have commercialized and cheapened it (and -made- it slutty). Real belly dance is a complicated, highly technical form of dance that is beautiful to watch when done well.

Apparently, belly dance was developed as a means of helping women prepare for labor. It was not originally a performance art, and was never done in front of men.

When im old enough to take one i will, along with pole dancing, no joke.
i think it would be fun! exploring your sexuality is awesome! who cares what stuck up snobs think, its all about fun, its not like im going to go pole dancing in the middle of a busy street (dont want to hurt someone!)

belly dancing is VERY unique, if done the right way, it brings out peoples confidence which is beautiful.

i think its disgusting.

i don't know why people who can do this, have the need to show it off to other people in the public.

its a fine talent but people can be disgusted easily and its something that people dont have to show to the public.

I've belly-danced some basic steps in a spiritual approach. I loved it, and I hope to try other dance-styles in college. It's an amazing form of dance.
