What should I wear for a belly dancing class?
Author: admin
I am taking a belly dancing class with my daughter. We both need modest ideas for what to wear. We need can’t show our navels and it needs to have sleeves. Also, I’m vertically challenged and fluffy (ie fat) I need something that moves but I won’t look too funny in.
Hi I’m Deborah, I have been bellydancing for 5 yrs! What I recommend is any type of yoga pants or sweat pants that are loose and not form fitting. Really any kind of stretchy pants (not shorts and no jeans) you can also wear a really long stretching skirt! It all depends on what you like
As far as a shirt once again anything stretchy! It can be a cute t-shirt, it can be a long sleeve shirt, it can be anything that you feel comfortable moving in! Another thing is a lot of bellydancers will wear a tank top and a gypsy top or choli top (you can look it up). which has sleeves on it! And then one of the most important parts is the hip scarf! It can be a knit scarf or a scarf covered in coins and beads. Look up bellydance hip scarf, you should see it there. As far as hair, it can be up or down, it doesn’t matter.

I do aerobics anyway but I find that exercises that combine fat burning with muscle use produce the most weight loss on certain areas, do think belly dancing is good for hip and stomach excess weight?
Yes and no.
Fat loss occurs over the entire body; however, if you have more fat in certain areas, you’ll see a greater change there.
Cardio like belly dancing will melt it away fast - as you already know. But the toning of the muscles below the fat layer will allow them to be more defined.
Make sense?
I want to try belly dancing but, don’t know where to find any classes that are close to Boston,or Norwood and also piano classes.I can already play flute but where can I find piano and belly dancing classes?
usually a local community college will offer classes to the community for a low price.

Action Plan for Single Girls on Valentine’s Day
Author: admin
Is valentine’s day the worse nightmare for singles? The whole world is celebrating love and you seem to be the only one left out? It doesn’t have to be that way. Here is the action plan for fabulous single girls to enjoy this day.
Action 1. Release.
Get the negative feelings out of the way. It’s OK to feel sad. Don’t try to sugar-coat it by pretending to be happy. But remember, being single is way better than being trapped in a troubled relationship. If you have to, give yourself 5 minutes to focus on your misery, (you’ll realize how stupid that is before the time is up.) Check to see if anything is changed. Then move to action 2.
Action 2. Express.
Valentine’s Day is not just about romantic relationships, it’s about the BIG love. Show your appreciation of your friend, your family, your pets, yourself, or planet earth! Send Valentine’s Day card to your loved ones. And remember to pick the most fancy card for yourself and write down reasons why you’re so special and lovable. Make sure it’s big enough, cause you need all the space.
Action 3. Connect.
If you are determined to get out of singlehood, put yourself out there. Prince charming is not going to come and knock on your door no matter how long you stay home waiting. Think what you are passionate about. Join an interest group and start making friends. Try meetup, meet market adventures, or groups on facebook.
Action 4. Have fun.
There are plenty of singles parties on this day. Sign up and have fun! You’ll realize that there is plenty of fish in the sea. You may find the special one on this special day. (Wishful thinking, I know, but be careful what you wish for, cause it might come true.)
Action 5. Get Physical.
If you are not the party type, exercise is a good way to boost your energy level and get you in a good mood. Go to the gym, attend a kickboxing class, try belly dancing, or go swimming in your poker dot bikinis.
Action 6. Indulge.
Before you can love others and be loved, you must love yourself. Pamper yourself with a SPA session or soak in your own tub with music (yes, you are encouraged to sing along) and aromatherapy candles. Enjoy a good massage and paint your toe nails in fuchsia.
You can pick a few actions from the list or do them all. Who knows, this may be your last single’s valentine’s day. Celebrate it, YOUR way.

Find Pleasure, Joy and Creativity With 2nd Chakra Malas
Author: admin
This is the second of a series that will inform you about the benefits of wearing your mala and saying your mantra for each of the seven chakras.
With the recent increased awareness of the many healing benefits of gemstones, mantras and malas, why not adorn yourself with jewelry that is both sacred and beautiful.
Chakra is a Sanskrit word that means wheel and refers to a system of seven basic energy centers that carry energy, or prana, throughout the body. Open and balanced chakras lead to optimal health, vitality and consciousness.
Second Chakra
The second chakra is located a few inches below the navel. The element is water and it is related to the moon, emotions, nurturing and being open and receptive. It is oriented to self-gratification, is considered the pleasure center and is related to sexuality, creativity and movement.
If out of balance, we may feel emotionally unstable, overly sensitive, guilty, ashamed or isolated. We may feel jealous, purposeless, impotent. When balanced, we feel a sense of joy and pleasure, sexual passion and fluidity of expression.
This chakra is linked to the color orange and the planet Pluto. It responds to sensual music and movements found in belly dancing, tango and salsa.
The possible physiological benefits for a balanced second chakra are healthy, vital reproduction organs and satisfying sexual experiences.
Gemstones: Orange calcite helps relieve emotional fear and restores equilibrium. It is used to open and balance the chakras.Â
Turquoise is a wonderful stone to use for creative endeavors and to channel emotions in a healthy way.
Mantra: “I bask in the joyful expression of my creativity. My feelings and desires are in perfect alignment with all that is good.”Â
We invite you to wear your mala and recite your mantra for 21 days for full transformation and alignment to occur. Each of our malas come with its own life-affirming mantra (âprayerâ, in Sanskrit) and represents a convergence of ancient spiritual tradition and modern beauty: The simplicity of gemstones is known to have healing qualities and, when worn around the wrist, is a constant reminder of the sacred within each of us. Mascots & Minglers - Eye Catching Entertainers
Author: admin
Planning a part or event doesn’t have to be that difficult. If you want to improve your events, find a way to make them really special. One way to do that is to introduce a little spice into the mix - in the form of entertainers - break the ice and get things moving.
And what more entertaining spice can you think of than a good entertainer. Whatever their role, be it mascot, mingler, or in the spotlight, a good entertainer can make people feel relaxed and comfortable and add flare to an otherwise dull event.
When you use an entertainer to improve your event, think about the type of party you’ll be hosting. Of course, you must first identify your goal. Are you welcoming home a long lost uncle? Trying to sell a timeshare? Increasing your network of professional contacts? And what are the characteristics of your guests? Are they business people, families, students? What type of party will it be? A small, intimate affair for a few friends or a big bash for the whole neighborhood? When you’ve established who’ll be there and what you’ll all be doing, you can begin to search for the perfect entertainer to brighten up the affair and improve your events.
How will you use your entertainer? A DJ is perfect for a party where people will be dancing. A comedian makes a great emcee or stand-up performer. A public speaker can not only entertain, but motivate and inform. Dancers can teach while they entertain, and exotic dancers (like belly dancers) can keep the place sizzling. Musicians, including singers, are a wonderful
addition to most events. Here is a list of types of entertainers you may not think of without a little help:
- balloon twisters - clowns
- face painters - impersonators
- hypnotists - magicians
- Elvis impersonators - mentalists
- puppeteers - ventriloquists
Musical entertainment doesn’t have to be a rock band or chamber orchestra. What about a barber shop quartet, folk singers, hip hop or rappers, or even a small gospel choir. It all depends on the people and the party.
You can probably find a number of choices by visiting your yellow pages or checking on the internet. The options are almost limitless. Most of these entertainers work at very reasonable prices because they’re either just starting out and need the experience, or they’ve already retired and want to keep active in their beloved profession.
If your budget won’t support a professional entertainer, you might think about bringing in someone who will mingle with your guests to get and keep the conversations and laughter going. Do you know someone who’s outgoing and funny? A good mingler is comfortable with all types of people and is a great conversationalist. If you bring someone in with that purpose in mind, it will probably improve your event and bring the best out in your guests. Of course, as host or hostess, you’ll want to play the role of mingler as well, making sure your guests are comfortable and involved.
One approach to party entertainment is to have activities in which the guests participate. A hypnotist can use your guests as subjects and keep everyone laughing. Impersonators can play role-playing games - what would you say to the President at a fun event? A local dance teacher can keep everyone involved in learning a new dance step. There are also theme parties where everyone has a role. One of the most familiar is the murder mystery where guests have to solve a crime. Casino or poker parties involve your guests in challenging and fun activities for hours!
And, of course, there’s the traditional costume party where your entertainer can play a specific role (like Caesar or George Washington). You can turn your costume party into a casual version of Trivial Pursuit, where the entertainer/character asks guests questions about his or her life or events of that day. You can offer prizes for most answers. Be creative! People love to get outside the old party box. A professional entertainer will give your party a special flare and improve your events.
Bringing in a professional photographer is a great way to get people excited. Few people don’t like to have their picture taken. Now, imagine them having their picture taken with Caesar, George Washington, or George Bush!
There’s only one down side to this approach. Once you’ve spiced up your party with a professional entertainer, your guests will expect all your events to be as much fun! They’ll be talking about you and the party for years to come. So, if you’ve run out of ways to bring smiles to the faces of your friends, family, and business acquaintences, consider introducing an entertainer into the mix. They’ll make your party a smashing success and improve all your events!

How to do belly dancing posture correctly?
Author: admin
ok, so i’m interested in trying to belly dance. it looks fun and most ppl who do belly dancing have AMAZING abs. Now the thing i’m having a problem with is the posture(probably because i naturally have bad posture) So ur suppose to keep ur feet together and then soften u knees. I know this sounds retarded but, how do u soften ur knees? Because when i try my knees feel all locked and stiff….. Any tips?
The people who do bellydance with amazing abs probably all do Pilates or yoga as well.
Most advanced workshops start with an hour of one or the other before they get anywhere near dancing.
Feet should be hip width apart - hip socket width, not the huge hips most women imagine they have when you say hip width apart - unless you are doing tribal fusion or American tribal style (ATS) when feet should be closer together (for most moves).
Soft knees mean bending them slightly. You might need to do some gentle squats and plies to get them moving.
You are right that posture is incredibly important. You need to pull yourself up as tall as possible stretching your spine (watch that belly vanish as you stretch), tail tucked under neatly, belly button to spine. Chest should not be thrust forward. Imagine there are two ropes down the front connecting hips and chest. Those ropes should always be switched on, and you can flex them.
Make sure you are really well balanced so you can twitch a muscle and slide around on the slippery balls in your hip joints.
Hold your rib cage steady and imagine the rest of your body is suspended from it - then you can move your suspended body with all the flexibility of your hips, knees and feet to play with.
It will take some work. Your best bet is to sign up for a class with a good teacher, and take a Pilates class which be really good for your posture in general. I do both and the dance is my reward for all the really hard work in Pilates.
I’m just curious about this. Belly dancing is Middle Eastern in origin, but how does it fit in with conservative Islam, like with women covering their head and everything?
Is bellydancing a pre-Islamic art? Is it just practiced among more liberal Muslims? Or it is practiced by mostly Christians in the Middle East and not Muslims?
HEY ![]()
Just to clarify a muslim women can do any kind of dance or sports she wishes to, but like the game there’s rules, even in conservative muslim countries. as you know women from all parts of the world are involved in some physical game to please men such as pole dancing in the west, can can in europe, booty shakin in africa, geisha girls in asia and of course belly dancing in the middle east. In libreal muslim countries like bahrain, turkey n the UAE………..yep women belly dance librally, and in the red districts, even more erotically. In a more conservative muslim country like saudi or iraq, muslims women do actually belly dance, but there is a time and place. If in a function such as a wedding or a party it is tolerated. If women are dancing in the rooms and no men are present, then yea. but in public its a big no no.
Hope the helps
